LMP Education is proud to share success stories of our apprentices. One such apprentice is Laura-Jayne, a 34-year-old Mental Health and Wellbeing Worker in The Magdalen CofE/Methodist Primary School- The LAAT. Here is her story:
“My academy trust was using funding to give staff opportunities to develop their knowledge within their area of work. As I was new to the Pastoral Manager role, I thought this course would help me to develop my knowledge and skills within this area of supporting children, staff and families within my school community in terms of their mental health and wellbeing.
The funding that was available, and the apprenticeship gave me the flexibility to work in my role while developing my skills. The learning and assessment were all online too which was more convenient.
The main benefit of this apprenticeship programme is being able to progress while being employed in my current role. Online learning is much more time effective as well as doesn’t require travel time.
I’m most proud of developing my knowledge of other services that can support children and families within my setting. Being more confident at exploring data, as well as getting a distinction.
The best thing about my role is seeing the impact of my work with children and families while making trusting and valued relationships with them.
Jade Dumbell my LMP tutor was amazing! I can’t speak highly enough of her. She was so supportive, available to support, encouraging and positive. She would help me to connect the apprenticeship learning to my role and would help with anything and everything that I needed. She explained tasks and expectations clearly, while offering advice and guidance to help me progress. I am incredibly grateful for Jade’s support throughout my apprenticeship!
Looking at data has encouraged me to do this more within my role. While I found this task challenging my tutor fully supported me with this. Looking at data in the role of pastoral manager is beneficial in looking at progress in terms of impact.
Also, my knowledge of other services has improved which was something that I really wanted. It supports me in my role advising parents of support that is available to them and/or their children.
In the nearer future, I would like to look at implementing my learning from my apprenticeship, fully embedding what I have learnt.
Later down the line, I would like to look at further learning in mental health.”
Best of luck in the future, Laura-Jayne!
