Molly is 21 years old and she has previously completed a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship but didn’t enjoy working in the office environment. She decided to change direction with her career and start a Teaching Assistant apprenticeship at Thomas Bewick School. She was looking to do something different, where no two days are the same and this role suited her perfectly. Molly is currently supporting children aged 15+ and she enjoys helping children learn and develop their skills.
Molly finds working with the children in the topic lessons interesting and she also enjoys doing art therapy and seeing how the children express themselves. Some of her group have been learning to sew to support fine motor skills, and she loves supporting the children with this.
Molly said;
“As a Teaching Assistant, I help the children develop their skills in maths and English. I support maths interventions with 2 children which I find really rewarding. One of the other benefits of this apprenticeship is that I get a really good work/life balance. I work during the week at school and get my weekends which means I can be involved in activities with friends and family.
There are so many skills for life within this job like learning lots of different behaviours amongst the children and developing my own confidence. I think this is important as the more experience I have the better I can become at my job and having more confidence means I can take on more responsibility.
I have received great support from the school and also from Inspire ATA. They are always checking in and asking how things are going along with having meetings with my tutor to make sure I am managing my workload.
I am not 100% sure what I would like to do in the future but I am hoping to progress onto the Level 4 Higher Level Teaching Assistant programme.”
