LMP Education is proud to partner with Oasis Community Learning providing tailored apprenticeship training programmes to develop their staff. Since 2018, LMP has supported over 800 apprentices across the Oasis trust nationwide.
Jasmine Mehmet is a Teaching Assistant from Oasis Silvertown who used LMP Education’s Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant programme to further her career and expertise in Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Here is her story:
“I chose this programme because I am keen to advance my career in education by improving access to fair and equal opportunities for all learners. I believe accessible education is vital for everyone. I selected the SEND pathway because it impacts most of the students I work with, and I have seen how adaptations to the learning environment can greatly benefit the most vulnerable learners, helping to prevent them from missing opportunities.
The primary benefit I gain from completing this apprenticeship is learning to tailor my support to meet the diverse needs of different learners. The training enhances my skills, making me more efficient and effective in my work, which supports my growth and advancement in my role.
My tutor Ria has been very supportive, meeting with me monthly to aid my development.
Additionally, learner support helps me handle my workload effectively. Ria always answers my questions and quickly finds answers if she doesn’t know right away. She responds to emails promptly, aiding efficient time management. I also have a supportive team at work, with whom we communicate effectively to work efficiently.
I have implemented effective interventions, like the ‘Time Matters’ program, which has supported a student I work with in developing timekeeping skills across various areas and sessions.
The most valuable skill I have acquired is the ability to identify the most effective evidence-based interventions, as they help bridge the gap by providing accessible learning both inside and outside the classroom.
After completing my apprenticeship, I aspire to be in a position establish effective interventions both inside and outside the classroom, while managing data to keep it accurate and aligned with current research. My advice for anyone who is thinking about starting an apprenticeship is pick something you enjoy and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions.”
Well done, Jasmine, best of luck in the future!
