LMP Education would like to congratulate Connor Meech, a Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprentice from SummerDown School for winning Apprentice of the Month! Here is Connor’s story:

“I chose this apprenticeship to gain knowledge inside schools, and to gain experience from a new role. An apprenticeship pathway was appealing to me as it allows me to learn and grow in a new role. To be able to make a difference while learning myself.

Having a mentor like Kym and Jo from LMP has have helped massively. Whenever I need someone to talk or just ask a question, I know I have a safety blanket. They’re both incredible in what there do.  I felt nothing but supported and don’t have to worry about anything.

I’m most proud of how quickly I’ve managed to grow into this role in such a short notice while also managing to keep a high quality of work on the academic side.

The most important skills I’ve learned in my apprenticeship are patience and adaptability. You can plan something for a day, and it won’t work but you have to be quick to adapt and you can still gain what you intended.

The best thing about my role is being able to make a difference every day. Seeing pupils thrive by what you do is one of the best feelings you can have. The class I work at has struggled but as a team we managed to work out a good routine which works for all. A big shoutout to Davinia, Lara and Shannon! This award goes to you as well!

After I finish my apprenticeship, I plan to remain as a TA and help the vulnerable students that need help. It’s a role I’m very passionate about.”

Connor’s tutors Jo Ramswell and Kymberley Regan have said:

“Connor is part of the Engage Education cohort at LMP.  He always attends sessions despite these being after a demanding workday and is always fully engaged, contributing in all teaching sessions.  Connor is also completing his Maths Functional Skills and is on track to complete this early.  Connor also attends these sessions out of work hours, contributes well and completes all required tasks in a timely manner.  Connor is an example of how it is possible to balance the requirements of a demanding job whilst completing an intensive apprenticeship, utilising all his learning to the benefit of his students in the workplace where he contributes positively to the overall learning environment.”

Well done Connor, best of luck in the future!
