LMP Education are proud to provide a range of apprenticeships for the education sector, helping develop the educators of tomorrow. One such educator is Rachael who completed a Teaching Assistant apprenticeship with LMP Education in Oasis Shirley Park Primary School and achieved a distinction, here is her story:
“I chose this apprenticeship programme as I wanted to work with children in schools and help to teach and support them.
I liked the idea of working and earning whilst also learning new skills which would contribute to my professional development in the future. I chose this over university due to the fees of university and wanting to start working soon.
The main benefit of an apprenticeship programme is that you are learning new skills on the job and able to apply in real life. You also earn a wage which leaves you feeling a sense of accomplishment.
In my apprenticeship I was able to gain a distinction whilst working under pressure and juggling coursework and responsibilities at work.
The best thing about my role is seeing the progress of the children I have helped in the classroom from how they were at the beginning of the year to what they have achieved by the end of the year. Knowing that I’ve made a difference to that child’s life and have contributed to their progress is the best feeling.
LMP were able to ensure I received the appropriate resources and training for my role and coursework. My tutor Scarlet Horsley helped along the way and supported me by preparing me for my end point assessment when I was nervous.
In my role I have learnt to communicate with my colleagues clearly and ask for assistance when needed. One of the most important skills I’ve gained is time management which is key when working and contributes to professionalism.
My hope for the future is to continue working as a teaching assistant and eventually complete a level 5 course to become a higher-level teaching assistant.”
