We are thrilled to announce that our apprentice of the month is Georgia Cox. Georgia is a Level 3 Teaching Assistant from Oaklands School Group in Hounslow. On receiving her award, she shares her learner journey with LMP Education.

“I aspire to be a Teaching Assistant, particularly working with SEND children. I thought that being able to study alongside working would teach the most about how to be a good TA and this programme sounded like a great way to do it.

I chose this programme with LMP Education so that I can learn on the job and gain experience whilst earning a salary.

The biggest benefit of doing an apprenticeship programme is that you gain experience whilst learning, you get paid, you don’t go into debt like with university, and you learn a lot.

I’m really proud of the number of additional CPD courses through Anspear that I’ve completed. These CPD courses are extremely helpful in teaching me about certain aspects of the job.

My favourite thing about my role is working with students in a really supportive environment where I can see them making progress with the help of me and all the other staff on the team.

My LMP tutors (Naomi Chance and Kate Merrick) are amazing! I have additional needs myself, and they have done everything that they can to support me and make the learning accessible. They also make learning fun, and I look forward to my sessions with them. Oaklands have also given me study time within my working week which has made things easier to manage.

The most important skill I’ve learned is resilience within the workplace. Some students can be quite demanding, but you have to keep going with them, and then sometimes you get a breakthrough which is really rewarding. It might only be a tiny thing, but they are all steps forward!

After completing my apprenticeship, I would like to get a permanent full-time job working as a Teaching Assistant. I love that no two days are the same, and that it’s really rewarding working in education.”

Naomi Chance, Georgia’s LMP Tutor said: “Georgia has taken every opportunity to develop in her role, she has shadowed colleagues and taken ideas from teaching sessions to the classroom to develop strategies. Georgia has embraced the extra support sessions from Naomi and Kate and has not seen her own learning needs as a barrier.

She has, over time, relied on her mum in sessions less as she has grown in confidence and has taken ownership of her work and thoughts. Next year Georgia is moving to a different part of the school where she can take on some more teaching responsibilities.”

Well done for your achievement, Georgia!
