This Level 4 Professional Accounting Apprenticeship is designed to provide aspiring accountants with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, practices, and regulations. Throughout the apprenticeship, you'll explore key topics such as regulation and compliance, systems and processes, core elements of double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards. You'll also develop essential skills in areas such as data analysis, financial reporting, leadership and risk management. The Professional accounting standard allows student registration with a number of UK professional bodies in this sector.

If a candidate seeks to become a member of a professional body there may be other requirements specific to the relevant professional body.

Completion of the professional accounting apprenticeship may lead to the candidate receiving credits towards the completion of the Professional accountant or tax apprenticeship or chartered Accountancy or taxation qualifications provided by the relevant professional bodies.

The End Point Assessment (EPA) assesses your skills, knowledge, and behaviour gained throughout the course, validating your readiness to excel in the field.

You will showcase your expertise, demonstrating your ability to apply learned concepts. Typically, the EPA consist of a portfolio of evidence including a reflective statement and a role simulation. The role simulation is designed to assess Apprentices in a consistent way, regardless of job role or specialism. The Role Simulation will be developed and hosted by the Assessment Organisation and apprentices will receive a set of information prior to sitting this element. During the Role Simulation, the Apprentices will be presented with further information about the organisation and will be asked to complete a series of written and objective short tasks.

Professional Accounting Apprenticeship

Programme
Information

  • A Professional accounting or tax technician will understand the industries and environments in which an organisation operates, including customer and supplier needs, in order to create and/or validate and/or report financial information.
  • A Professional accounting or tax technician will understand and apply the relevant ethical standards to their own behaviour and appropriately challenge the actions of others where they do not meet these standards.
  • A Professional accounting or tax technician will be able to understand and apply professional standards and legal regulations to an organisation’s financial information, and to comply with the fundamental principles of integrity, objectivity, professional competence and due care and confidentiality.
  • Financial information is created, verified and reported via a combination of systems and processes, such as accounting or tax systems, internal control systems and IT systems. An understanding of these systems and processes is fundamental to an accountant’s ability to perform their role.

  • Create and interpret information, and show how that information can be used most effectively to add value to the organisation.
  • Effectively communicate relevant information across the organisation and to appropriate stakeholders in both written and verbal formats.
  • Proactively manage their own development and is committed to the job and their profession.
  • Work to tight deadlines and respond to changing priorities. Effectively plan and prioritise time and co-ordinate the input of others in order to meet both deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Apply accounting, tax knowledge to consistently deliver high quality, accurate data and information in a timely fashion.

  • Willing to both listen and learn and to accept changing priorities and working requirements and has the flexibility to maintain high standards in a changing environment.
  • Actively engage in the wider business, as appropriate, and look to provide information that positively contributes to influencing business decisions.
  • Continually strive to improve own working processes and those of the organisation.
  • Takes responsibility. Demonstrates the drive and energy to get things done, even under pressure.

    Month 1-18: This is where you will learn the most, completing learning objectives towards achieving your qualification.
  • Building your competence and portfolio of evidence through covering key KSBs for your apprenticeship standard
  • Completing your Level 4 diploma by passing exams (5 units)
  • Completing Functional Skills (where applicable)
  • Attending mandatory weekly group workshops covering key topics
  • Attending monthly teaching and learning reviews to ensure everything is going well
  • Progress reviews every three months with your personal tutor and line manager


  • Month 19-21: Consolidating your knowledge, skills and behaviours, preparing for the final step of your apprenticeship
  • Finalising your portfolio of evidence
  • Completing mock tests in preparation for your EPA
  • Completing the paperwork necessary for the next steps - please note: in order to go through to the End Point Assessment you will be required to submit your Diploma certificate


  • Month 22-24: Gateway Period, you will be completing your final assessments with our End Point Assessment Organisation, AAT

    Month 24+: Next steps
    Congratulations! You have achieved your Level 4 Professional Accountant apprenticeship qualification. There are a number of options you can take whether you want to continue with your studies or pursue a full-time career in the finance sector.

Our comprehensive curriculum blends theoretical learning with practical application, covering essential accounting principles in a more advanced level such credit and debt management, financial statements, applied management accounting, leadership and management and financial data analysis.

Throughout the programme, you will attend workshops where you will be covering topics on legislations, cashflow, credit control and divisional performance (list is not exhaustive) and you will also be given the opportunity to network with your peers. You will also receive personalised guidance and mentorship via your apprenticeship tutor, ensuring you develop both technical expertise and professional acumen.

As part of your apprenticeship programme, you will be also completing your Level 4 Diploma in Accounting gaining two qualifications within the same time frame!
