Provide resources

Local councils provide a range of support for families and pupils over the summer months, but often people are not aware of it. Help to support pupils and their families over the summer by creating resource packs with information of the available support and activities they have access to over the summer.

Facilitate check-ins

The responsibility to safeguard pupils does not end when the school shuts its doors for the summer. If you have a pupil that you are concerned about, make sure that this is documented and that they receive the support they need. By helping to facilitating check-ins on the pupil you can ensure that they remain safe and supported even when not in school.

Promote summer camps and activities

There are many settings that offer summer activities for young people. These can make for a great way to engage children, keeping them busy while providing structure and routine. Many of these settings focus on particular activities such as sports, arts or science making them a fantastic place for young people to find new passions and explore.

Some programmes, like the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programmes also offer meals for their participants, supporting families and children in need at a time when free school meals are not available.
