Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to get into the education sector or to develop within a current career path. In this article we will break down some of the ways educators can utilise apprenticeships to grow within their teaching career.
The benefit of apprenticeships
Apprenticeship programmes are a great way to get into a field or develop within an existing job. As they are government funded, the training is at no cost to the apprentice and is either free or highlight discounted for the employer, making them a great way to upskills staff. Some of the benefits of apprenticeships include:
Hands on experience
Through an apprenticeship programme learners gain a qualification while working full time. That allows them to apply the theoretical knowledge they gain in their lessons in real life situations, developing skills as they do so. Additionally, apprentices complete their programme with a qualification and real-world experience making them more desirable candidates for future roles.
Learn as you earn
As mentioned above, apprentices work full time during their programme. This means that they earn a salary while studying, helping to reduce some of the financial strain that is often associated with other learning paths such as university.
Growth opportunities
Apprenticeship programmes are often offered at a range of levels, providing learners with a clear progression pathway from entry level roles all the way to managerial positions.
Apprenticeships within education
The education sector makes use of apprenticeships in a wide range of roles. Apprenticeships are available for teaching positions, back-office roles, and even management. For those interested in starting a career working in a school, an apprenticeship path may be the way to go.
LMP Education’s Teaching Assistant Development Programme
LMP Education offer a range of apprenticeships for the education sector, including our popular Teaching Assistant Development Programme. This programme can take learners from a Level 3 Teaching Assistant position all the way to Level 5.

This programme allows learners to specialise in one of three areas (SEND, English as Additional Language, and Social and Emotional Wellbeing).
LMP Education offers two versions of this programme, a standard route and an alternative pathway including HLTA qualification.
