As we enter the month of September, we’re excited to launch the refreshed Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship, now featuring embedded SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) content as part of the core curriculum.
The improved Level 3 funded training programme provides learners and schools with more choice, expertise and progression opportunities.

Previously, exposure to SEND topics depended on the learner’s chosen pathway. Now, every apprentice on the LMP Education Level 3 Teaching Assistant programme will gain essential knowledge and understanding of key SEND areas, regardless of their route, ensuring they are better prepared for the realities of today’s classroom.

In recent years there has been a rapid rise in the number of pupils with SEND which means that Teaching Assistants are more likely than ever to support learners with diverse needs.

The change in our programme aims to support schools through the new SEND support requirements by equipping Teaching Assistants with the knowledge and skills they need when helping pupils with SEND.

What’s new?

LMP Education’s Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship now includes SEND training as a core part of every learner’s journey.

Learning materials include:

  • Interpreting and adjusting age-related expectations for learners with SEND.
  • Applying the Graduated Approach (Assess – Plan – Do – Review).
  • Understanding the purpose of assessment in SEND.
  • Providing effective feedback that supports diverse needs.
  • Exploring case studies covering conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Condition and Cerebral Palsy.
  • Using appropriate tools and strategies to help all pupils succeed.

This updated programme ensures that every apprentice develops confidence in inclusive practice and understands how to meet the needs of learners with a wide range of abilities and barriers.

Our enhanced programme builds confident, inclusive and adaptable Teaching Assistants who can make a real difference in the lives of all pupils particularly those who need it most.

Typical programme length is 16 months, which is made up of 14 months core learning and 2 months EPA (end point assessment) leading to an NCFE qualification.
