Trees: the importance of reforestation

Deforestation is a process that involves the cutting down of tress and minimising forests and other wooded areas. This process has been accelerating over the last couple of centuries alongside global industrialisation. In recent years a counter movement emerged: reforestation.

Reforestation is the process of replanting tress in areas where forests have been depleted. This could be due to natural causes or human activity like deforestation.

Having an abundance of trees can help reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases and particularly carbon in the environment, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Support ecosystem diversity

Forests and other wooded areas provide habitat for a range of wildlife and ecosystems. Deforestation destroys those habitats expediting extinction of animals and damages the fragile ecosystems that live around us all.

Improve quality of life

Having more green spaces helps to improve people’s quality of life by providing them with more pleasant spaces to be around, support agriculture and reduce food insecurity through improved soil fertility and encourage tourism in the local area.

How to support reforestation as a business

As a business you can have a massive influence in supporting reforestation. You can organise tree planting events for your employees, sponsor a tree planting initiative in your local area, or work to reforest the area around your office building by planting trees, shrubs or other plants.
