Work experience is one of the most powerful ways to prepare young people for the world beyond the classroom. It provides a bridge between education and employment, giving young people a chance to develop real skills, build confidence and gain a genuine understanding of what working life is like. For those considering their future pathways, it can also be a vital step in discovering interests, shaping ambitions and exploring what careers may be right for them.

At LMP Action, we believe that high quality work experience is not just about spending time in a workplace, but about offering young people the chance to be inspired and supported by professionals who can show them what is possible.

This summer, we are proud to be partnering once again with Wates Construction to deliver an immersive work experience programme for young people in Year 10. Taking place over one week, the programme will provide participants with first hand access to one of the UK’s leading construction firms. Through site visits, hands on tasks, project work and mentoring, young people will gain a deeper insight into the many different roles and skills involved in the construction sector.

This is more than just an introduction to bricklaying or design. It is about helping young people see how a wide range of talents and interests are needed across the industry. From engineering and project management to sustainability and community planning, construction offers a range of pathways that many young people may not have considered before.

By working directly with industry experts, young people will not only develop practical skills, but will also gain a clearer picture of what is expected in the workplace, how to communicate as part of a team, and what it takes to succeed in a professional environment.

Programmes like this make a real difference. They give young people a sense of purpose and direction, and often spark ambitions that extend well beyond the week itself. Our partnership with Wates is part of a wider commitment to ensuring young people are not just work ready, but future ready.

As we continue to grow our employability and enrichment offer, we remain focused on creating meaningful opportunities that allow young people to learn from the very best in their field. By connecting education with real world experience, we are helping shape futures that are informed, ambitious and full of possibility.
