Rhian Jenkins is a 52-year-old School Business Professional apprentice at Snaresbrook Primary School in London. Rhian shared her apprenticeship journey with us:

“Apprenticeships are something I’ve been interested in for a while and I received an email about it which made me realise I could do the course via  apprenticeship levy funding. I decided I would have the time to be able to study and complete the course whilst working in school at no cost to myself.

The support I receive is one of the biggest benefits of the programme. Both my LMP tutors are amazing  and very understanding to the constant time constraints I have and my workload. I can work at my pace along with regular meeting sessions as well as webinars which have been invaluable to me.

My tutor is Kate Merrick and her patience with my maths ability never fails to amaze me.  She is patient and her teaching methods are phenomenal. I have learnt so much from her and know she is there to support my learning.

Kayleigh Skates has also been great. She is understanding of my time constraints and offers constant support and advice for me to be able to complete the modules and checks in to ensure I am not overloaded.

The online teaching from the LMP team has been amazing. Their teaching is clear, concise and easy to follow. I am learning a lot from them and often for the first time.

The best thing about my role is that every day is different, and every day is a school day!  It never ceases to amaze me how much the role changes year on year and how much more demanding it is. The knowledge necessary to carry out the role is so comprehensive which makes this course and CPD vital to ensure systems, training and knowledge are as current as possible. The children make the job incredible and knowing I am making a difference is the greatest reward.

The maths skills I am learning has been wonderful. I am learning topics I have never learnt. I am growing in confidence as a result of this and hoping that soon I will be ready to take my maths exams.

My next steps are to be employed where I work as a School Business Professional or to be able to apply for the role elsewhere if this not available to me.”

Good luck in your journey Rhian!
