Lajla is an 18-year-old Teaching Assistant apprentice at Evergreen School. For National Apprenticeship Week Lajla has shared her story with LMP Education:
“When I was researching apprenticeships online, I found LMP and this teaching vacancy on the gov.uk website. It caught my eye as I saw it was advertising an apprenticeship for my dream job, so I applied immediately.
The main benefit of doing an apprenticeship is that you get to learn and get a qualification by doing hands on work in the job role that you want Instead of sitting in a school and learning from being taught. In an apprenticeship you teach yourself through experience and observation and built skills through learning on the job.
The best thing about my role is the children I work with. They are amazing and I feel so grateful to be a part of their lives and part of their learning journey.
My class teacher Becky has been so helpful in showing me the ropes and teaching me about all the children and their needs. And Sophie and Kimberly have been amazing at answering any questions I have and always getting back to me and taking the time to find an answer or a solution.
The most important skills I’ve learned is how to communicate with the children. As they are pre-speaking, they don’t communicate the same way that I do but learning all the different ways they show their wants and needs has taught me how much you can say without words, and it has been so important in building a relationship with the children.
After I complete the programme, I want to continue at Evergreen School as a TA or possibly at the other school.”
Best of luck in your apprenticeship Lajla!
