It’s National Apprenticeship Week! Throughout this week we will be sharing stories from across LMP Education’s apprenticeship programmes to spotlight our learners and the amazing work they do. Today we have Aimie, a 46-year-old Community Health and Wellbeing Champion from King Edward VI College.
Aimie chose this apprenticeship as she was hoping it can further her career in the wellbeing sector. As she explains she was hoping “to pursue a career in social prescribing or wellbeing coach.”
In her programme she enjoyed being around like-minded people and the ability to learn on the job. She has said that she loves her role as “Every day is different and working with 16 – 19-year-olds is very rewarding.”
Throughout her programme Aimie was supported by her LMP tutor Jade, as she said “I would like to express my sincere appreciation for Jade’s exceptional support as my tutor. Her ability to provide context and help me apply the knowledge practically to my role has been invaluable. Jade’s flexibility and understanding of the demands of my position have made her guidance even more effective. Her extensive knowledge is evident in every session, and I always look forward to our meetings.
My line manager at King Ed’s highlighted this wellbeing champion course to me and has been my biggest cheerleader since I started. She always offers me support when needed and understands the demands of studying whilst working full time in a demanding role.”
The most important skill Aimie learned in her programme is how to support others, as she explains “empathy, compassion and patience go a long way. Treating people as individuals and listening to their needs, without judgement, builds mutual respect.”
Aimie is set with her future career goals and in the future, she hopes to “apply what I have learnt within my current role and then pursue a career in social prescribing or wellbeing coach or similar.”
Best of luck in the future, Aimie!
