LMP Education is excited to announce that Ritu Kumar a Level 3 Teaching Assistant from Lambourn Primary school has won Apprentice of the Month! Here is her story:
“I decided to start an apprenticeship programme because I wanted to further develop my skills after 20 years of working with Lambourn primary school. This was a big step in developing my career and gaining qualifications as well challenging myself.
The school offered me to do this as I have no university or A level background. My skills come from 20 years of working with children and this was a brilliant opportunity to gain a qualification to elevate that experience.
The flexibility of the programme allows me to work while I gain a qualification. The main benefits are the support I receive to overcome any challenges from IT to coursework.
I’m most proud of completing all the challenging tasks and overcoming any obstacles with support from my family and team. I am proud of myself with how I am passing every task and growing my knowledge and skills from IT to learning theories and how to apply them in my work to give back to the community, families and most of all support children to the best of my abilities with this knowledge.
The best thing about my role is working with children and supporting them with the foundations to being a good human being, do well in school, supporting the right behaviours and giving back to the community. I see the growth in children in a short space of time from where kids I have worked in the past have grown up to be role models in the community.
My LMP Tutor, Naomi Chance, has helped me by building my confidence and knowledge with how to navigate through the tasks. Sometimes I feel like I cannot continue but Naomi is always there to support me motivate me and give me that can do attitude. My team at the school want me to grow so they allow me for any flexibility and support I need. I’ve never had a feeling like this before and I am extremely grateful to them.
The most important skill I’ve learnt is to never give up and achieve your goals. This programme has been challenging for many reasons but with my team and the support I receive to not give up and keep going this is the best thing the course has taught me, and I am so grateful for that. It’s never too late.
My goals for the future are to keep trying new opportunities, improving my IT skills and push myself to be the best TA I can be for Lambourn primary school.”
Naomi Chance, Ritu’s tutor has said: “Ritu has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the sessions and has worked tirelessly over the last 12 months to build her written and spoken English skills to ensure that she gives good quality evidence and builds her confidence for End Point Assessment.
Through the teaching sessions Ritu has extended her knowledge on safeguarding, health and safety and child development and can apply theoretical perspectives to her work.
Ritu has learnt how to plan sessions and lead interventions as well as strategies to manage behaviour and support her with SEND children including how to carry out formative assessments that will support with targets. Ritu has been a pleasure to support and her passion for education shines through.”
