LMP Education is proud to partner with Oasis Community Learning providing tailored apprenticeship training programmes to develop their staff. Since 2018, LMP has supported over 700 apprenticeships across the Oasis trust nationwide.

Oasis Academy Wintringham utilises apprenticeships in both their hiring practices and in developing their existing staff. Joanne McIntyre is a long serving member of staff in the academy who chose to undertake an apprenticeship programme to develop her role within the school, here is her story:

“I chose to complete the apprenticeship programme to help keep my knowledge and skills up to date. I have worked in education for 22 years and feel is it important to always keep learning and improving myself. The Community health and wellbeing worker apprenticeship aligned with my pastoral role in school.

The main benefit of completing an apprenticeship is the flexibility it offers.  I have been able to complete it during times to fit around my working day and family life.

The support I have received from my LMP tutor has been invaluable. She has arranged extra meetings to offer further support when I have at times felt unable to complete milestones within the allocated time due to work demands. This was especially the case when the students I worked with were sitting their GCSE’s and they were my primary focus. When my students left school, I was able to refocus and set a plan for completing the remainder of the milestones with my tutor which also included extra meetings. Throughout the apprenticeship I have always been supported in school by my mentor, my mentor changed halfway through, but this wasn’t an issue, and they have given their time to supporting me in the meetings as and when needed.

The skill I have learnt most during my apprenticeship is reflection. It’s very easy to get caught up in day-to-day working life but taking the time to analyse past decisions and situations and reflect on what was successful and what could be improved will be something I make sure to carry on doing after completing this apprenticeship.

I have worked in pastoral for the past 19 years and am very happy to stay within that role, but I will continue to be the best version of myself I can be, to keep learning and growing and support our students to the best of my ability.

My advice would be to not be afraid of learning something new, you will have support from your tutor the whole way through and what you gain from it will have a positive impact.”

Jo Turner, Assistant Principal at Oasis Academy Wintringham added:

“Apprenticeship programmes offer the additional development that staff would like that they can use within the Academy setting.  It allows the apprentice to further develop their skill set whilst having the hands-on experience of their day-to-day work.

The experience with the LMP team has been great and the support offered to Joanne has been excellent

Joanne’s job role has evolved over the years, and she continually adapts and grows with the changes.  Joanne is always wanting to improve her skill set so she can continue to give back to the students she supports and works with.

Joanne makes an impact on the lives of the students in her year group every single day.  Joanne forms excellent relationships with all students in her year group; this was observed on results day when students wanted Joanne to be with them whilst the opened their results.  Joanne will always go above and beyond for her students to ensure they feel supported and has been the key adult in so many young people’s lives.”
