Amina Imran is a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice is Oasis Academy Temple in Manchester. Here is her story:

“I chose a teaching assistant apprenticeship because it allows me to gain hands-on experience in the classroom while developing the skills and knowledge, I need to support students’ learning and growth.

A teaching assistant apprenticeship is rewarding because it allows me to earn while I learn, gain hands-on classroom experience, develop valuable skills, and build a clear pathway for career progression in education.

I have been supported by my teacher and the tutor team through regular feedback, guidance, and encouragement, which has helped me build my confidence, develop new skills, and stay motivated throughout my apprenticeship.

I have made a positive impact in the school by supporting pupils’ learning, helping to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment, and contributing to the smooth running of daily activities. For example, with a specific child I supported last year he was in a wheelchair, and I was able to support him with his confidence and being open on sports day.

The most valuable skill I have learnt from my apprenticeship is effective communication, as it allows me to build positive relationships with pupils, support their individual needs, and work collaboratively with teachers and staff to create a successful learning environment.

My next step is to use the skills I have developed during my apprenticeship, such as communication, empathy, and teamwork, to pursue my career goal of becoming a midwife.

My advice to anyone thinking of starting an apprenticeship programme is to go for it, as it’s a great opportunity to gain practical experience, learn new skills, and earn a qualification while working towards your career goals.”

Well done, Amina, best of luck in the future!
