LMP Education is proud to partner with Oasis Community Learning providing tailored apprenticeship training programmes to develop their staff. Since 2018, LMP has supported over 700 apprenticeships across the Oasis trust nationwide.

Working with Oasis Academy Woodview, LMP Education prioritises developing and nurturing staff. Joseph Darnley the Principal of the academy said “We recognised the importance of developing and nurturing talent within our school. LMP aligns well with our ethos of investing in people and providing opportunities for professional growth.” Apprenticeships are key for building a strong school staff, as Joseph explains “they provide an opportunity to bring enthusiastic and motivated people into our team who are eager to learn and contribute.”

One of our most popular programmes is our Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant programme which allows Teaching Assistants to develop and specialise in their field. One such learners is Nikki from Oasis Academy Woodview. Here is her story:

“I chose to do this programme to help me receive greater knowledge and understanding of children with SEND. To have more of an insight to help the children learn and improve my knowledge of working alongside the children with send.

I believe that by completing this course will give me more experience within the subject, I will earn a professional recognised qualification.

The support throughout the programme has been amazing, my LMP tutor, Susan, is very approachable and always willing to help. She is very supportive and flexible, often adjusting our meeting dates/times to fit around my work schedule.

Within my school, the support has been amazing from my mentor Tori and all staff. When I have asked for evidence, such as a case study or planning work, they have always delivered it with a professional manner.

Since starting the programme my confidence with of working alongside the SEND children has grown. I have made a positive impact in the development of the enhanced learning provision working with some of our most complex and vulnerable children. I have worked directly with the SENDCo and the special schools outreach team to embed specialist interventions and particularly routine for the children.

Lots of the children I worked with at the beginning of the year were completely autonomous; they did not make eye contact and did not engage with peers or adults. With the support of the specialist strategies, modelling augmentative communication and being consistent the children have been able to communicate effectively either through leading an adult or giving eye contact to visuals. This has helped the children to feel safe and I have built up great relationships with both the children and their parents.

The most important skills I have learn are critical thinking and reasoning, this has helped me make informed decisions with my SEND children.

After completing my programme, I would like to further my education in this field and eventually before a SENCO with a school.

I would highly recommend this programme to anyone who is interested in teaching. If you are considering this programme, just take the leap!”

Kiran Satti, Deputy Principal at Oasis Academy Woodview said “Nikki is a key member of our SEND Provision – in terms of expertise, adaptability and role modelling what responsive, inclusive and caring SEND provision should look like. She has enabled many of the children within our SEND provision to thrive in their settings – class based, and non-class based:

  • Non-verbal children are able to communicate effectively through specific interventions and input Nikki has provided them
  • Children have developed in confidence in a range of learning spaces enabling them to develop their gross and fine motor skills
  • Nikki has had impact on children achieving their personalised targets through her personable and intentional work ethic – safe and trusting relationships are at the core of why she is successful and enables some of our most vulnerable children to succeed and improve developmentally and incrementally through their targeted provision.

Nikki is a powerhouse of positivity – she is proactive, responsive and adaptable. She is a key team member and enables others to excel through her professionalism and work ethic. It is a real joy to work with Nikki on a day-to-day basis.”

Joseph Darnley concludes “Nikki has had a significant impact on our school community. Her dedication and commitment have directly contributed to the progress and wellbeing of the children she works with. Nikki is often the person who helps children believe in themselves and overcome barriers, which has a ripple effect on their wider school experience. Nikki shows reliability and willingness to go the extra mile for children and staff. She is an integral and highly valued member of our team. You are amazing Nikki!”
