LMP Education is proud to partner with Oasis Community Learning providing tailored apprenticeship training programmes to develop their staff. Since 2018, LMP has supported over 700 apprenticeships across the Oasis trust nationwide.
Seeking to enhance their Sports Provision within the school, Oasis Academy Clarksfield approached LMP Education after already having several apprentices on site. Suzanne Buckley Operations Manager at the academy explains “we wanted to enhance sports provision within school as part of the Sports Premium Funding. We approached LMP as we already worked closely with them on the recruitment and training of Teaching Assistant Apprenticeships, and we had built up a good relationship. We identified the ideal course incorporating Sports with the role of a Teaching Assistant.
Apprenticeships enable us to increase capacity of Staff within the Academy ensuring ratios are met. This enhances experiences for the children, ensures safety, and ultimately improves outcomes. It can sometimes prove very challenging to ensure we balance the school budget and ensure delivery of high-class education; therefore, the nature of the apprenticeship scheme gives us more capacity to achieve this.
I have worked alongside LMP since September 2020 for the recruitment and training provision of all our Apprentices in School. During this time, we have collaborated to support over 20 Apprentices, many of which have qualified with ‘Distinction’ grades. This has also fed into the ‘Oasis Grow Your Own’ Policy with several Apprentices going on to obtain permanent roles in school ranging from Teaching Assistant, Safeguarding Officer and Trainee Teacher.
I have recently built up a very good relationship with our LMP Account Manager Scarlet Horsley, who always deals with queries efficiently and effectively. She always answers the phone straight away, if possible, or responds to messages/emails within a short time frame. She assists us with the recruitment processes by advertising the post, shortlisting, reference requests and interview invites and is always willing to help in any way. I am confident I can rely on her to direct queries or concerns we may have to the right person.”
Through LMP’s Teaching Assistant Sports Pathway Apprenticeship Oasis Academy Clarksfield recruited Finn Winterbottom who has since made a huge impact on the school as he explains “The biggest impact I made during my apprenticeship was working with a child in crisis daily, this was a very high challenge form me as my job was teaching pe, I helped get this child back into the school system and out of crisis.”
When discussing Finn’s contributions Suzanne said: “Finn has been an exemplary member of staff since commencing at the Academy in October 2023. He has a natural ability to relate to the children in his care, and his kind, caring and patient nature shines through. He is an excellent role model to all the children in his care.
Finn also demonstrated a particular talent in relating to children with SEND and the ability to de-escalate children who are dysregulated. Finn was often the staff member called upon if children required extra support. He has worked incredibly hard throughout the duration of his Apprenticeship and gained a ‘Distinction’ grade which is a testament to his dedication.
Finn was also successful in gaining a permanent Teaching Assistant role in school and we are delighted and privileged to have him as part of the Team at Oasis Clarksfield.
Sports at Lunchtimes have been transformed since Finn started leading engaging daily sporting activities. Behaviour in the playground and teamwork have shown a marked improvement.
SEN children have a staff member they can relate well to and feel safe and supported with.”
Rebecca Howard, Principal at Rebecca Howard added “Finn is a hard-working member of our team whose commitment to professional development is evident in his achievement of a distinction in his apprenticeship. He engages well with external agencies, embracing their training to broaden his knowledge and understanding. Finn’s caring nature reflects our academy’s ethos and culture, he is a true champion for the children he works with, always going the extra mile to support their needs.
Finn has been on such a brilliant and inspiring journey with his apprenticeship. He started out as a sports coach, successfully engaging some of our most vulnerable children in sports. Working with these children took him down a more pastoral route where he showed a real passion and skill in nurturing and supporting children with specific needs. This gave Finn and opportunity to work with outside agencies to receive bespoke training. Finn also delivered sensory circuit interventions to children across school. Finn then applied for and was successfully appointed as a permanent LSA at Oasis Academy Clarksfield and now brings a wealth of experience and training to the role.”
