LMP Education is proud to partner with Oasis Community Learning providing tailored apprenticeship training programmes to develop their staff. Since 2018, LMP has supported over 600 apprenticeships across the Oasis trust nationwide.
Muhammad Salahuddin is a Level 3 Sports Teaching Assistant Apprentice at Oasis Academy Foundry. Here is his story:
“I’ve chosen this program to continue developing my learning in sports coaching; I have taken this apprenticeship route as it allows me to use the knowledge and experience that I have gained from my previous education and to put that into practice. Coaching is something that I genuinely enjoy, and this programme allows me to build on my coaching skills while gaining hand on experience. The best part of my role has been how vital I was to the school to make such a massive impact in supporting the pupil’s physical development, which has motivated me even more.
In my opinion, completing this apprenticeship has many benefits. By completing this apprenticeship you’ll have the opportunity to learn and work at the same time, you’ll have experience working in your chosen field whilst developing your skills. At the end of the apprenticeship, you’ll receive a recognized qualification. This apprenticeship provides a great balance of academic and practical learning that will help you prepare for future career opportunities.
From when I first started, my line manager has supported me throughout the day and I always felt comfortable approaching them with any issues, whether it was something to do with timetable, where I needed to be or having something explained that I could apply in my learning. As for my LMP tutor (Leigh) who has supported me from day one, having that regular check-ups each month to review my progress which I look forward to as this is an opportunity to learn and improve on, he has also given additional advice to keep me on track. We’ve built a brilliant bond, not just about the programme itself but also conversations outside of it which has me made me feel even more supported. The amount of praise that I have received has been heart-warming, even during moments where I doubt myself sometimes.
I can happily say that I have made a massive difference at Oasis Academy Foundry in the sports field and in a classroom. I have put in the effort to support the staff during lessons working together as one to ensure the P.E curriculum is taught effectively. I have introduced new ideas and activities which engages not just the pupils, but the staff involved also. There were also scenarios where I had to lead in some of the P.E lessons myself, which has given me more confidence and experience in planning and leading a session plan. This has helped me progress towards my goal of becoming a sports coach.
The most crucial skill I have learnt is patience as this is one of the 9 habits at Oasis Academy Foundry. Patience is something we all need in our lives, it helps us stay calm and focused even when things don’t go as planned. I have learnt to remain calm with parents, staff and pupils, especially in challenging situations. This skill is important to me because it allows me to think before reacting, making better decisions and to handle situations calmly and effectively.
My next step after completing this programme is to continue my learning in the sports field by completing the Level 4 Sports Coach Apprenticeship. This will allow me to continue something that I enjoy and am passionate about while effectively using the skills I have developed during my apprenticeship. This school is perfect place for me to continue growing, as I already have a great connection with the staff, pupils and parents in which they can support me in further developing my coaching abilities.
My advice for those who are interested in applying for an apprenticeship is that it is an excellent opportunity to do something that you’ll love in a practical environment. You’ll also learn from experienced tutors and mentors who can help you develop your skills that will benefit your career pathway. The key thing is to be proactive take control on what you want to do, ask as many questions as possible and make the most of the learning opportunity. “
Well done Muhammad, best of luck in the future!
