We are nearly halfway through the summer term marking the end of this current academic year. Now is the perfect time to start considering your school’s training and recruitment strategy for September. Learn how LMP Education can support your school through your hiring and staff development needs.
Apprenticeships for staff development
Funded training programmes and apprenticeships are available to people aged 16 and over. They are an ideal way to upskill and develop your existing workforce and can create significant value for your organisation. In larger organisations (pay bill over £3m), you can use the Growth and Skills Levy to access fully funded apprenticeship training programmes.
Hire an apprentice
An apprentice can bring many new skills and ideas to your organisation. It is a productive, low risk and effective way to grow talent and develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.
Employer recruitment incentives available for schools
In April the new Growth and Skills Levy came into effect, overhauling the existing apprenticeship system. To encourage business to hire young people the DfE introduced a cash incentive of up to £3,000 is available for hiring young talent aged 16-24 (if on Universal Credit). Non-levy paying employers can receive a £2,000 incentive for recruiting new apprentices aged 16–24, starting October 2026, payable after 90 days of employment. Learn more about recruitment incentives from the DfE.
Use your pupil premium
The pupil premium grant provides funding to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in state-funded schools in England. Schools receive a set amount per pupil that fits the specific funding criteria.
While the pupil premium is given per child based on specific criteria, the school does not have to use this grant to benefit the pupil alone and can use the premium for elements that can benefit the school. Examples of how schools can use their pupil premium grand include:
- Recruiting additional Teaching Assistants (TAs)
- Staff training and professional development
- Recruiting specialist staff to improve learning outcomes
