August is here and across the UK thousands of young people are receiving their GCSE and A-Level results and starting to plan their future. Starting your career can be intimidating and there are a number of paths you can take, from university to apprenticeships or finding an entry level job. Now is the time for you to review the paths available to you and decide what is best for your life and goals. In this article we will discuss why you should consider the apprenticeship path.

Learn as you earn

Apprenticeships allow you to work full time while gaining a qualification. Georgia, a Level 3 Teaching Assistant with LMP Education explains: “The biggest benefit of doing an apprenticeship programme is that you gain experience whilst learning, you get paid, you don’t go into debt like with university, and you learn a lot.”

Gain work experience

A crucial part of apprenticeships is the fact that you work a full-time job while studying. This unique aspect of apprenticeships helps you grow your work experience, enhancing your CV and giving you an edge over other candidates when applying for jobs.

As Astacia an LMP Education apprentice explains: “the benefits of an apprenticeship programme are that you can have working experience which will ultimately help with finding jobs in the future as a lot of employers want people with experience. I also think it gives a good insight into what it would look like to work in a particular sector as it may not be suited to everyone and having the chance to work in that field allows you to decide if it’s a good fit for you.”

Receive support

Apprenticeships are aimed at building careers. During an apprenticeship you are supported by both your tutors and your employer which helps you grow and develop.

Hodan, a Level 2 Early years Practitioner with LMP, shared her experience: “I been supported emotionally and intellectually during my apprenticeship. I was quite shy starting the job and had quite little knowledge and experience about children, but with support from my manager she allowed me to constantly ask nonstop questions and was always there for me from the start, from my interview till now, always supporting me and being the best person, I could ask for. “

Turn your passion into a career

Apprenticeships can be found in nearly every sector, giving you a wide range of career options to choose from. This allows you to focus on what you are truly passionate about and turn your passion into a career.

As Dorian, a Library, Information and Archive Services apprentice (LIAS) with LMP Education explains: “The best thing about my role is old books! I love old books. Even the seemingly really boring ones about beetles in Norwich or shipping lanes in the 1820s. They tell you a lot about what people valued or found interesting in different times in history. You’ll find the most heartfelt dedication to a loved one in the front of the world’s most boring book about Admiral Nelson’s naval strategies. It’s great.”
