Bismah is 18 and is currently in a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship at Claycots Primary School in Southeast, Slough. She decided to do an apprenticeship as it allowed her to take the steps she needed for her future goals and aspirations.

She was supported by her employer and her tutor in LMP Education.

Here is Bismah’s apprenticeship journey so far

‘I chose this apprenticeship programme, because it allowed me to take the steps I needed for my future goals and aspirations.

The main benefits of an apprenticeship programme would be being able to gain essential experience whilst working towards a qualification. The programme enables you to understand the skills, responsibilities and experience that are required of the profession and what a day could entail.

The best thing about my role is having the opportunity to have an important impact on the children in their learning and development. I also enjoy building positive relationships with the children and learning who they are as an individual.

I have been supported every step of the way by the Claycots School and my LMP tutor. The school have supported me through collecting the evidence for my assignments and developing my knowledge and skills. I was able to observe and learn with experienced staff members and receive frequent CPD opportunities.  My LMP tutor has supported me by understanding me as an individual and what works best for me. My tutor was very adaptable, approachable, and kind. No question was too silly and I felt comfortable and confident. It made my assignments and the learning experience so positive and enjoyable!

The most important skill I have learnt is being able to adapt my communication abilities. I think this is important as I will be communicating with a range of personnel and children with different knowledge and abilities. Being able to understand who you are talking to and adapting the information accordingly allowed the person to feel appreciated and comfortable and the information to be shared In a smooth and appropriate manner. It is also important as I was able to understand how to support children with special educational needs, and how to make the learning accessible to them.

The next step in my career is the level 4 Higher level teaching assistant programme.’
