It’s National Apprenticeship Week! Throughout this week we will be highlighting some of our apprentices and sharing their stories. Today we are spotlighting Charlotte, a 33-year-old SEND Teaching Assistant apprentice from Weydon school. Here is her story:
“I chose this apprenticeship so that I could improve my knowledge and performance at work. I also chose this to then enhance my career potential as well as gain access to higher education.
Being able to work within the industry you are studying for is very important, as the majority of learning is done through on the job and day to day work life.
The best thing about my role is making a difference to the students, making sure the learning is accessible to them.
My LMP tutors have been fantastic and have really helped me when I have struggled, along with helping to build my confidence. My employer has encouraged me throughout the course, giving me the time to complete work but also the guidance should it be required.
The most important skill I have learnt is how to write an essay. Having been out of education for several years and never attending university, I didn’t feel confident in essay writing, but it is now something I feel confident in and enjoy. This has also helped me with my confidence in communicating with other employees and my students’ parents.
My next step is to begin my level 5 SEND Specialist Teaching Assistant apprenticeship with the hope to progress in my career and one day become a SEND teacher.”
Well done, Charlotte, we wish you all the best in the future.
