Welcome to National Apprenticeship Week! This week LMP Education are celebrating our learners by sharing stories from apprentices across all programmes. Today we have Daud Chughtai a 21-year-old Teaching Assistant apprentice from Oasis Academy Limeside. Here is his story:

“Before I started the apprenticeship I was working in various job and I didn’t enjoy them. I didn’t have career and my girlfriend suggested I might be good as a Teaching Assistant. When we looked at it, I liked the idea and I have never looked back.

The apprenticeship has helped me get back on my feet, it has given me a better understanding of education and I realise now that it can be fun. I have met lots of different people and children and it has taught me that its ok to be different. It has taught me patient because there are some real challenges

The best thing about my role is building the relationship with 121 children, getting to know and understand them and learning how to help them, it is so rewarding.

I have two tutors, Melanie and Kate. Kate has pushed me to achieve. She has honestly told me as it is and pulled me into line in a way that has made me believe in myself. I feel that I can talk about anything in sessions, talking about how I am feeling is something that I don’t normally do. Melanie has been a star all the way through. She constantly checks on me, she constantly reassures me and even got me a fidget toy to help me focus! Both tutors have never given up on me and pushed me to be the best I can be

Danielle Burns has given me constant reassurance and offered to help, she just makes me feel calm. All staff have always been there to help, all the training and experience have just helped me grow.

The most important skill I’ve learned is patience mainly as I have never been patience. Accepting that not everything can go your way and you have to adapt constantly and improvise on the spot.

In the future, I would like to stay working with children.”

Best of luck in the future Daud!
