It’s National Apprenticeship Week! Throughout this week we will be sharing stories from learners across our programmes spotlighting their work and celebrating success. Today we will be sharing the story of Elissa, an 18-year-old Teaching Assistant apprentice from Bedlington Academy. Here is her story:

“LMP were very proactive in finding me an apprenticeship role. I got an email and phone call to invite me to an interview for Bedlington Academy. LMP made the process so easy which allowed me to get my job. I had messages and support given before the interview to help me achieve the best outcome.

The best thing about my programme is how helpful my LMP tutor is, she is constantly checking on me and making sure I’m handling the workload. I feel absolutely no pressure and can talk to her whenever I need to. She provides me with so much support, and I never have the feeling of being overwhelmed with assignments.

The best thing about my role is supporting the students, when they know your name and come to you whenever they have a problem is such a rewarding feeling because it shows they trust you and have a secure relationship.

Sammie my LMP tutor is incredible, she provides me with the most support and constantly checks up on me to make sure I’m alright personally and with my workload.

My employer Rose has been amazing as she has worked my timetable up from having not as much workload to building it up over time so I have no stress or worries about completing it all. She constantly checks on me to make sure I understand everything she gives me, and we have monthly meetings were we talk about anything I’m struggling with and how she can help me move forward.

The most important skill I have learned while being in this job role is patience, the students want to be heard and not discarded. Sometimes they will have emotional outbursts but having the patience to allow them to regulate is so important when working in a school.

After my apprenticeship I would love to stay on at my current job to develop my knowledge more about the school systems, my overall goal is to become a teacher and go to university, but I want the experience to help me along the way.”

We wish you all the best in your apprenticeship Elissa.
