Ormiston Academies Trust and LMP Education
National Apprenticeship Week 2023

Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) is one of the largest not-for-profit multi-academy trusts in England. Educating over 30,000 pupils across five OAT regions in over 40 schools, OAT is a values-led organisation delivering excellent learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom.

LMP Education and OAT have been working in partnership for 5 years to support the trust with recruitment of new talent whilst also upskilling existing members of staff. Together we have supported over 400 apprentices in many different roles across OAT.

The Teaching Assistant apprenticeship programme is the most popular qualification within its schools, with over 28% of learners within OAT on this programme.

OAT also provide many training and development opportunities for new and existing staff in the following areas – School Business Manager, Business Administration, HR Support, AAT Accounting, Laboratory Technician, Operations or Departmental Manager, Learning & Skills Teacher, Team Leader, Children, Young People & Families Manager, Customer Service, Library, Information & Archives Assistant and Early Years Educator.

The expert recruitment team at LMP provides support to the OAT academies and regional offices by recruiting apprentices into support roles. Through a blended learning experience, apprentices receive 1:1 support from their tutor and their LMP Education account manager.

During the enrolment process, each learner receives current information, advice and guidance from their dedicated account manager. Following this, the apprentice is guided through their enrolment and supported by an administration team. Once on programme, apprentices have their own tutor who will work with them on a 1:1 basis to support them in achieving their qualification. Apprentices also have access to our safeguarding support service if required.

Working together OAT and LMP Education are driving forward a successful apprenticeship strategy enabling high quality, cost-effective funding of training and development using the apprenticeship levy.

Jamie McVey, LMP Education Sales Director said, ‘We are proud to support Ormiston Academies Trust as they are a long-term partner, with values that align to the LMP Education values. We have worked closely for over 5 years championing the positive impact of apprenticeships on the lives of young people and also the CPD opportunities they bring to the existing workforce. This year, during National Apprenticeship Week, we are able to showcase the development of the OAT apprenticeship strategy and it’s benefits to skills, growth and development.’

Apprentice feedback

‘University wasn’t for me, so I chose a Business Administration Apprenticeship instead through LMP and Ormiston Academies Trust. I started my apprenticeship through Ormiston Academies Trust whilst working at Cowes Enterprise College on the Isle of Wight. I had just finished my A-levels and I wasn’t sure that the university pathway was for me. I was fortunate to be taken on at Cowes Enterprise College where I could learn ‘on the job’ and be supported through my Level 3 Business Administration qualification. At the end of my first year I achieved a distinction in my apprenticeship and gained the experience and confidence to fulfil my current professional role. All of which I could not have achieved without the fantastic support of LMP, OAT and the staff at Cowes Enterprise College.’ Ellie Johnson – Former Business Administration Apprentice, Cowes Enterprise College

Apprentice feedback

‘I have received fantastic support from the team at LMP Education.  The course itself was stimulating and engaging, as it provided recent updates, changes to attitudes/ legislation and law to further enhance my knowledge. My tutor guided and helped me through each unit with lots of discussion and feedback.’ Latoya Dixon, Teaching Assistant Apprentice, George Salter Academy
