It’s National Apprenticeship Week! During this week LMP Education are sharing stories from across our programmes to celebrate all our wonderful apprentices. Today we are sharing the story of Hannah, a 38-year-old SEND Teaching Assistant apprentice from Sandbach High School. Here is her story:

“I wanted to become a Teaching Assistant as I have seen the amazing impact they have had on my son,, who has autism and I wanted to do the same. However, I needed experience working with children or a qualification, so this was the perfect combination of the two. Also, being a stay-at-home mum for 7 years before starting this was a great way to get back into the workplace.

The main benefits of an apprenticeship programme are getting paid while getting a qualification, gaining experience, great support from the apprenticeship company and the workplace, and how the off the job hours work round my family.

The best thing about my role is that every day is different and I love working with the students and staff. The role is so rewarding and seeing the improvements in students work is amazing to see.

I have had so much support from Julie Phillips my LMP tutor she has been amazing! Also, everyone on the SEND team at my placement especially Emma McNulty who is so supportive and always there to answer any questions I have.

The most important skill I’ve learned in my apprenticeship is how to ask open questions as it gives students the opportunity to contribute more to the conversation and more chance to convey how they feel.

After I complete my programme, I would like to stay at my placement on a permanent basis and to further my career to hopefully specialise in Speech and Language.”

Best of luck in the future, Hannah!
