Paige M, a SEND Teaching Assistant from The Manor school in Melksham was selected as November’s apprentice of the month.
Paige left school at 16 and had her first child – she did not get the GCSE Grades that she wanted or needed to join the Police Force and worked as a carer. Paige went on to have 2 more children and then, decided last year that it was her time to have her career.
Paige secured a job in a local primary school and then went on to start her Apprenticeship. Paige’s passion for giving children opportunities and support with their learning is phenomenal and the support from her employer is amazing. Paige has been given lots of training opportunities at school and is running various Interventions with a focus on ELSA, Lego Therapy and supporting children who have experienced trauma.
Paige shares “I choose to do an apprenticeship because I felt it would enhance my abilities within my job role and felt like this would really support me in all aspects.
I choose this programme because it really stood out to me when I was looking at courses to complete and I felt like this course gave me the best chance to qualify as a SEND Ta”.
Paige is (under the careful guidance of the Sendco) making referrals, supporting children who cannot access full time education and recording behaviour and safeguarding concerns. Paige always researches and reads extensively to complete her written work and comes to sessions organised, enthusiastic and professionally curious. She asks questions and is fantastic at linking theory to practice.
In her programme she received support from her LMP tutor “I have been fully supported by LMP education and Naomi chance, who was always understanding and also fully supported me when I felt like I need extra time”.
Paige already has plans to progress to a Level 5 qualification and the school are 100% behind her – giving her time out to complete tasks, reflect and extend her knowledge.
Paige said “This is my time now. Teaching is who I am and I so grateful of all the support I have around me”.
Well done, Paige!
