Cassey, a 20-year-old Teaching Assistant apprentice from Court Lane Infant School has won LMP Education’s Apprentice of The Month! Cassey started her apprenticeship in September and has already made an impact on her school. Cassey has shared her story with us:
“I chose to take part in this apprenticeship programme as I wanted to start my teaching career and step foot into the education world. It was a job that I have always wanted to do and when the opportunity came, I took it.
I decided to do an apprenticeship over going to university as I liked the idea of being able to gain experience every day whilst also getting paid for it. I also liked how I am able to relate my coursework to my experiences.
Being able to become part of a team and gain valuable experience whilst still being a learner is a huge benefit of an apprenticeship programme, as well as being paid whilst getting the qualification rather than paying for the qualification.
I am very proud of how much I have achieved in such little time, and I have managed to grow my confidence which has helped me, my students and my colleagues. Recognition is also something that I am proud of as it shows that my hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. I am very proud of the changes that I have made to help my 1:1 with praise from other colleagues.
The best thing about my role is how I am able to have a positive impact on children’s lives and help them to be the best they can. I also find it very motivating and encouraging.
I have been supported very well by both my employer and my LMP Tutor Naomi. I feel very comfortable to ask any questions and not feel judged but also, I have the backing from them all. I am encouraged to better myself and to gain as much experience as I can.
Adaptability is a skill that I have developed through taking part in this Apprenticeship programme as I am now able to assess situations and adapt resources to suit the ability of the children I am teaching. This is an important skill because it helps me to adapt situations for my 1 to 1 to suit their needs whilst also making sure that they are included.
After my apprenticeship I am going to get a job as a TA and when comfortable I am considering becoming a teacher.”
Cassey’s tutor Naomi has said “Cassey has been in post since September and works one to one with a child. Through the knowledge and skills that Cassey has gained her confidence has soared. At her Progress review she had made huge jumps on her skills scan and was able to talk confidentially about the role she plays.”
Cassey’s Line Manager said: “Cassey’s confidence has grown massively since starting her apprenticeship. She has recently been proactive in reflecting on a 1 to 1 child’s SEND targets and created interventions to ensure these targets are met. She then has supported the class teacher in creating new targets. Cassey uses her initiative by doing her own research outside of school hours to support her in her role as a teaching assistant. Cassey enjoys what she does, and this is evident in how she conducts herself in school.”
Well done, Cassey, we wish you all the best in the future!
