LMP Education is proud to partner with Oasis Community Learning providing tailored apprenticeship training programmes to develop their staff. Since 2018, LMP has supported over 800 apprenticeships across the Oasis trust nationwide.
Marie O’keeffe, a Teaching Assistant from Oasis academy Shirley Park Primary has utilised LMP Education’s apprenticeships to grow her career. She is currently doing a Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant programme to further her development. Here is her story:
“I decided to do an apprenticeship as I wanted to gain better skills and knowledge working as TA within my setting. This will help me give my pupils the best start in life. I never went to university as I was unsure of what I wanted to do in life. Doing the apprenticeship has shown me it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.
My level 5 is the second apprenticeship with LMP, I have always been supported by my tutors and mentor. They always there to listen when I am finding things difficult, not just in my work life but my personal life to. They support me in what can make my life a bit easier.
I have worked in my school for nearly 10 years. Doing the apprenticeship has made me more confident and believe in myself which I am then passing on to the children. The apprenticeship makes me understand why some children behaviour the way they do, and what I can to do support them to give them the best school experience.
The most valuable skill I have learnt is that I can ask for help if I need it. I was always the shy girl to not ask questions and nod along. But doing the apprenticeship and asking for help made me realise it doesn’t make you more stupid by asking. How are you ever going to learn if you don’t ask!
After completing my apprenticeship, I would love to support young children with dyslexia, even without being diagnosed, just to put things into place for them so they don’t feel left out or struggle in school.
My advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship would be that It’s never too late whatever your age! You can make it work around your personal and family life.”
Well done Marie, best of luck in the future!
