Olivia, age 21, is a Teaching Assistant apprentice (TA) at Thomas Bewick School, a specialist provision for autistic children and young people based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her apprenticeship is delivered by Inspire ATA, a flexi-job apprenticeship agency that employs and supports apprentices across the UK.

In a recent meeting with her LMP tutor, Olivia shared her story.

“The reason for choosing this apprenticeship was that I am able to learn and get paid at the same time, it’s truly been a great experience.

The best thing about my role is being able to support children at Thomas Bewick. I help them overcome difficulties and achieve things they couldn’t do before.

My confidence has grown and I am developing my interpersonal skills so I can effectively communicate with the children.

After my apprenticeship, my next step in my career is to become a fully qualified class teacher. The apprenticeship is providing me with the perfect stepping stone to do this and I am really enjoying it.”
