What are funded training programmes?

Apprenticeships are government funded training programmes that make use of the apprenticeship levy helping businesses upskill their existing staff or hire and train new staff.

Apprenticeship levy

The Apprenticeship Levy is a tax on UK employers that is used to fund apprenticeship training. It is paid by all employers with an annual wage bill exceeding £3 billion. The levy pot can be used by levy paying businesses to invest into apprenticeships and is also available to non-levy paying small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) to use to help them train their staff or recruit new apprentices.
