Our Summer Transition Camps are a summer school initiative that provides young people with the extra support they need to have a smooth transition from primary to secondary school. The LMP programme offers creatively devised sessions that are fun and engaging over the course of one week. The camps are delivered by qualified teachers and LMP Action staff who offer a holistic approach, measuring self-esteem whilst underpinning numeracy and literacy principles.

The Department for Education’s latest report assessed the learning loss experienced by pupils during Covid-19. The report concluded that periods of partial school closure ‘created and exacerbated learning losses in both reading and mathematics’ with certain characteristic groups and pupils in different regions of England experienced greater learning losses. Transition camps give young people the confidence and extra support required to start high school.

It is important to us that the lessons and ethics introduced and learnt on our programme mirror those of your school. We will ask you for your behaviour policies, code of conduct, uniform requirements and any other specific information that should be introduced to your incoming Year 7’s, in order to build their affiliation with your school.
We have been delivering transition camps for students for many years. This transition period can be stressful for young people, and this short, intensive summer programme aims to address concerns, fear and pre-conceptions of ‘big’ school, and ultimately provide tools to aid settlement into a new environment.
Our programme is educational and fun! It has been created to evoke curiosity in young people and inspire learning. All sessions are interactive, challenging, have clear learning objectives, and are outcome orientated. We have a clear focus on identifying needs and then working to maintain literacy and numeracy levels in creative ways. During the Programme, we address concerns, fears, and pre-conceptions of ‘big’ school, provide academic catch-up and, ultimately, a safe environment to aid settlement into a new school.

LMP Action is a Community Interest Company. We have delivered over 150 academic transition programmes in the last five years. We also run several alternative education provisions all over the country and specialise in providing apprenticeship training for schools. LMP provides careers and employability support so young learners are aware of their options and can make the most of secondary school.
Since completing the Transition Camp Summer School delivered by LMP Action, I’ve felt more confident about starting Secondary School. I have enjoyed it and done all of my work because it’s something that interests me. In the future, I would like to be a sports teacher or coach.
