LMP Education is proud to partner with Oasis Community Learning providing tailored apprenticeship training programmes to develop their staff. Since 2018, LMP has supported over 600 apprenticeships across the Oasis trust nationwide.
Hooriya Batool Hussain is a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice at Oasis Academy Temple. Here is her story:
“I chose this apprenticeship because I have previously done work experience in a primary school, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoy working with children, helping them progress in their learning and helping them become more confident.
The main benefits are that you gain experience whilst getting a qualification at the end of the course. I can learn new skills every day and use them in my workspace. It also helps build confidence, develop key skills like communication and teamwork.
I’ve been supported by my workspace by the staff. The teachers have been helpful, giving me opportunities where I can observe first, then gradually take on more responsibilities. The teacher that I work with has also given me lots of advice on how to approach situations and overcome them. My LMP tutor has also supported me by having regular check-ups every month, giving me feedback on my assignments and staying on top of my work. Overall, I have had a strong support network around me.
During my apprenticeship, I have made an impact in supporting students with their learning in small groups where I can give them 1-1 support, helping them feel more confident, and providing support according to their needs. I have also made extra resources for them to take home and practise with their parents if they need extra support with their learning.
The most valuable skill I have learnt is patience. Working with children means that not every day is the same, and some children may not learn or behave in the same way. Keeping calm, giving children time and repeating myself in different ways according to the children’s needs to help them understand. This skill is important to me because it allows me to build positive relationships with students. This skill will help me in the future in any other role that I do, helping me handle challenges calmly and effectively.
After completing my apprenticeship, I would like to develop my experience and continue working in a school as a teaching assistant. I would like to build my skills by doing the Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant programme.
My advice to anyone starting an apprenticeship is to be prepared and take every opportunity you can to learn. Finding a balance between work, study can be tricky, but the experience gained is valuable. Always ask questions; you are there to learn, most people will know you are there to learn, and most people will be more than happy to help you out. Always stay positive and enjoy every moment.”
