LMP Education is proud to partner with Oasis Community Learning providing tailored apprenticeship training programmes to develop their staff. Since 2018, LMP has supported over 600 apprenticeships across the Oasis trust nationwide.
Nadine Murray is a Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprentice at Oasis Academy Media City who made a huge difference to the school and pupils through her apprenticeship. Here is her story:
“I chose this TA apprenticeship programme because I am passionate about supporting young people in their learning and development. I enjoy working with Students and want to help them build confidence and achieve their full potential. This apprenticeship gives me the chance to gain hands-on experience in the classroom while also developing my knowledge and skills through training. I feel it’s the perfect pathway for me to grow professionally, make a positive difference in pupils’ lives.
In my opinion, one of the main benefits of completing a TA apprenticeship is gaining real classroom experience while learning on the job. You’re able to apply what you’re studying straight away, which makes the training more meaningful. It also helps you develop key skills such as supporting pupils with different needs, building positive relationships, and understanding how schools work day-to-day. Another benefit is that you can earn a qualification while working.
I’ve been well supported throughout my programme. In school, my line manager has been especially helpful, giving me regular feedback, checking in on my progress, and encouraging me to try new responsibilities. My colleagues have also been supportive, always willing to share advice and tips. From my LMP tutor, I’ve had clear guidance, regular reviews, and feedback on my work, which has really helped me stay on track and build confidence in my role.
During my apprenticeship, I feel I have made a positive impact by supporting students who struggle to access learning in the classroom. For example, I have been working closely with a student with ASD and anxiety who has found it very difficult to attend lessons. Over time, I have built a trusting relationship with him and gradually supported him to re-engage with his learning. While he is not yet able to attend the classroom, he has gained the confidence to complete parts of his lessons with me on a one-to-one basis in a quiet space where he feels comfortable. This has meant he is beginning to make academic progress again, and it has also reduced his levels of stress and anxiety around school. I am proud that my support has helped him take these important first steps towards returning to the classroom in the future.
The most valuable skill I have learnt from the TA apprenticeship is patience and adaptability. Every child learns differently, and I have had to adapt my approach depending on their individual needs, especially when supporting students with SEND or anxiety. This has taught me to remain calm, flexible, and encouraging, even when progress feels slow. It is important to me because it has not only helped me build stronger relationships with students but has also given me confidence in knowing that I can support them in a way that works best for them.
After completing this programme, my next career step is to continue with further training to support my progression into my new role as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA). I want to build on the knowledge and skills I have gained during my apprenticeship so that I can take on more responsibility with interventions, which will have an even greater impact on students’ learning and wellbeing.
My advice to anyone thinking of starting a TA apprenticeship would be to go for it but also be prepared to work hard and be patient. Every day is different, and it can be challenging at times, but the rewards are worth it when you see the progress a student makes because of your support. Make the most of the training and guidance from your tutor and line manager, and don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice along the way. The apprenticeship is a great way to gain hands-on experience while learning, and it really helps build your confidence and skills in supporting students.”
Well done Nadine, best of luck in the future!
