It’s the most important week of the year, National Apprenticeship Week. All throughout this week we will be sharing the stories of our apprenticeship from across all of LMP’s apprenticeship programmes. Today we have Amie, a 27-year-old Team Leader apprentice from Atlas Hotels. Here is her story:
“I chose the Team Leader apprenticeship programme because it offers a blend of skill development and hands-on experience which is essential for advancing my career. The programme provides structured training in leadership and management and opens up new career opportunities and enhances my professional credibility with recognised certifications.
Apprenticeship programmes are great for career development. They offer practical, hands-on experience, letting you apply what you learn directly to your job. This boosts your skills, confidence, and competence. Plus, you can earn a salary while you learn, making it financially beneficial.
The best thing about being a Team Leader within a hotel organisation is the opportunity to make a positive impact on both guests and staff. You get to ensure guests have a memorable and enjoyable stay, which is incredibly rewarding. As a Team Leader you play a crucial role in mentoring and supporting your team, helping them grow and succeed in their roles. The dynamic environment of a hotel means no two days are the same, keeping the job exciting and challenging.
I’ve received a lot of great support throughout this programme from both my manager, Jordan, and my LMP tutor, Lorraine. Jordan has provided practical guidance and feedback, helping me grow in my role within my workplace. Lorraine, on the other hand, has offered invaluable academic support, ensuring I understand the theoretical aspects and apply them effectively. Their combined efforts have made my learning experience enriching, giving me the confidence and skills needed to succeed.
The most important skill I’ve learned is effective communication. It’s crucial because it helps in clearly conveying ideas, expectations, and feedback, which is essential for teamwork and leadership. Good communication ensures that everyone is on the same page, reduces misunderstandings, and fosters a positive work environment. It also enhances guest satisfaction as communication is key to providing excellent service. Effective communication is fundamental to building strong relationships and achieving success in any role.
After completing this programme, I aim to apply the skills and knowledge I’ve gained to take on more responsibilities and contribute to the success of my team and the organisation. I plan to continue my professional development through further training and grow into a senior management position where I can make a significant impact on both the guest experience and the overall operations of the hotel.“
Well done, Amie, and best of luck in the future!
