This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) level 2 accounting apprenticeship will equip staff with the skills and knowledge that can be directly applied in their role. It is ideal for colleagues who assist with financial tasks or undertake junior accounting duties. The online training programme will include foundation bookkeeping and the latest accounting software skills.
An Accounts or Finance Assistant is an important team member, working with other accountants to support them with junior accounting tasks which contribute to an efficient and accurate finance function within an organisation.
This flexible apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, it combines Online and Virtual Classroom learning with regular sessions from an LMP Education tutor.
For employers - Why hire an apprentice?
Apprentices bring fresh and diverse perspectives, eagerness to learn, and a dedication to growing within your company. Apprenticeships allow for tailored training, ensuring that individuals acquire specific skills aligned with your organisation's needs, making them valuable assets from day 1. Investing in an apprentice not only fills crucial roles but also fosters a culture of mentorship and continuous improvement within your organisation.
Apprentices will study the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting as their onprogramme learning. This internationally recognised AAT qualification enables those working in accounting or those looking to pursue accountancy as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.
LMP Education offers a free recruitment service when it comes to taking on an apprentice. You are able to train or upskill existing team members within your organisation using this training programme.
We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this apprenticeship through our Online and Virtual Classroom model. Apprentices study online materials during allotted time at work, and also attend regular virtual sessions with a tutor.
Online lessons can be accessed at any time, using a mobile, tablet or desktop - meaning apprentices can fit their study around work commitments. Each lesson lasts around 45 minutes and is accompanied by animations and motion graphics to
bring concepts to life. Exercises, interactive case studies and analytical tools help to enhance the learning experience further.
Virtual Classroom – apprentices benefit from regular virtual classes with an experienced tutor. A combination of tutor-led work, group exercises and discussion encourages apprentices to apply theory to real-life workplace situations. This modern, flexible approach to apprenticeship training empowers learners, minimises disruption to employers, and delivers tangible results in the workplace.
From January 2025 we are also delivering face to face sessions at the LMP Training Centre in Holborn, London.
On successful completion of this programme you can progress to higher levels of the AAT accounting qualifications via apprenticeship training or through part-time courses (level 3 and then on to level 4).
On completion, the apprentice will be able to apply for the appropriate level of professional membership aligned with this apprenticeship, dependent on the qualification chosen. Professional body memberships that are relevant to the options for this apprenticeship are:
• IAB (Institute of Accountants and Bookkeepers) – Associate Level Membership
• ICB (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers)– Associate Level Membership
Please note: Neither AAT nor ACCA offer professional registration upon completion of this apprenticeship.
Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2 Standard and AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting
Accounts or Finance Assistant, Cashier Finance Assistant, Purchase Ledger Clerk, Sales Ledger Clerk.
The End Point Assessment (EPA) assesses your skills, knowledge, and behaviour gained throughout the course, validating your readiness to excel in the field.
You will showcase your expertise, demonstrating your ability to apply learned concepts. Typically, the EPA consist of structured interview supported by portfolio of evidence and an in-tray test. The test provides for an in-tray exercise based on a fictitious organisation’s scenario, which replicates the typical work an Accounts/Finance Assistant will have to manage in a workplace. The scenarios may be based on a variety of different organisational structures or operations and success will require an integration of the technical knowledge and skills required for the standard.
